Criminal Defence
CJH Solicitors incorporating Greenhill Cooper provide
the best quality advice and representation in relation
to criminal
cases from start to finish. We understand how
stressful facing a prosecution can be. By thoroughly
assessing the strength of the prosecution case and
listening carefully to what everyone involved has to say
we will reduce that stress by providing a clear picture
of the likely direction and outcome of the proceedings.
Police Investigations
Most prosecutions are preceded by police enquiries and
CJH Solicitors incorporating Greenhill Cooper will supply representation to the highest
professional standards in police stations 24 hours per
day, 365 days per year. All our solicitors are members
of the Police Station Duty Solicitor panel. Fully
accredited representatives also attend. Of course,
criminal investigations are also conducted by agencies
other than the police. You may even be facing the
possibility of a "private prosecution". Rest assured, we
have wide experience of all the different types of
criminal case that may be brought. Magistrates' Court
Should the police (or other prosecuting authority)
decide to commence proceedings the case will begin in
the Magistrates' Court. All our solicitors are members
of the Court Duty Solicitor Panel. Crown Court
Serious criminal cases usually go to the Crown Court. In
such an event, we may appoint a barrister who
specialises in criminal advocacy in the higher courts to
become part of the defence team. CJH carefully monitors
the performance of the barristers it uses and will
always match the best possible advocate to the type of
case and personalities involved. Also, Chris Hallas and
Steve Cobley are Higher Court Advocates and may provide
representation in the Crown Court in their own right.
Court of Appeal ... and beyond
CJH Solicitors incorporating Greenhill Cooper have been
involved in several cases that have gone beyond the
Crown Court on appeal to the Court of Appeal. Conscious
of the continuing impact of Human Rights legislation on
the conduct of criminal prosecutions, we are always
willing to pursue new points of law to the best
achievable conclusion.
Funding legal representation
We will always advise about the availability of public
funding for legal advice and representation (legal aid)
and provide detailed assistance in relation to any
relevant applications. If legal aid is unlikely to be
granted by the court CJH Solicitors incorporating
Greenhill Cooper will assist you in deciding the amount
of private fees you are prepared to commit to in
accordance with the particular requirements of your
case. Our solutions for private clients are competitive
and cost effective. |
