Christopher Hallas
Chris was admitted as a Solicitor
in 1987. He has had experience of a wide range of
legal disciplines but now focuses on criminal defence.
As well as being an accredited Duty
Solicitor on both the Police Station and Magistrates'
Court panels Chris is a Higher Court Advocate. With
rights of audience in all courts with a criminal
jurisdiction his experience extends to advocacy in the
Court of Appeal.
Chris has been both Chairman and
Secretary of the Derby Local Law Society Duty Solicitor
Committee (prior to the changes effected by the creation
of the Criminal Defence Service). He is a member of the
Law Society’s Criminal Sub-committee.
Chris is a former external examiner
(appointed by the Law Society) for the Legal Practice
Course run by John Moore’s University, Liverpool.
Chris is also a former member of
the Office for the Supervision of Solicitors
Professional Negligence Panel. As such he was tasked
with providing preliminary opinions on the potential
professional negligence of solicitors.

Stephen Cobley
Admitted as a Solicitor
in 1998, Steve is an accredited Duty
Solicitor on both the Police Station and Magistrates'
Court panels. He attained his rights of audience in the
higher courts in 2005 and he spends the majority of his
time defending cases in the Crown Court.
Steve has been involved in a number
of high profile cases involving large scale public
disorder, the importation and supply of drugs and inner
city gang violence. He has a particular expertise in
relation to Football Banning Orders having had
involvement in the case of
Gough v Chief
Constable of Derbyshire, etc which remains the leading
authority in relation to civil football banning
applications. Steve has successfully represented clients
in the Court of Appeal in respect of banning orders made
on conviction; see
R v Maybee, R v Arbery & others.

Peter Jones
Peter was admitted as a Solicitor in 1989 and is
an accredited Duty Solicitor on both the Police Station
and Magistrates' Court panels.
Private practice is Peter’s second
career. Formerly in the Magistrates' Court
Service, he was a Principal Legal Adviser at Derby Magistrates' Court.
Peter entered private practice in 1998.
Peter has a masters degree in
criminal justice management (MSc). His qualifications
and experience are utilised in relation to the day to
day operational control and management of the practice.
An expert in relation to motoring
related prosecutions, Peter also teaches other lawyers in
relation to "alcohol, drugs and driving".

Asif Munir
Asif was admitted as a Solicitor in 1998. He is an
accredited Duty Solicitor on both the Police Station and
Magistrates' Court panels.
Asif is an experienced specialist
criminal defence advocate having worked for several
firms before joining CJH Solicitors incorporating
Greenhill Cooper.

Jonathan Greenhill
Jonathan was admitted as a
Solicitor in
2003. He is an accredited Duty Solicitor on both the
Police Station and Magistrates' Court panels.
Jonathan is an experienced
specialist criminal defence lawyer having worked for
several firms before joining CJH Solicitors
incorporating Greenhill Cooper. He is a formidable
advocate for those under arrest in the police station.
